In addition to that, in Australia during a wave of scandals around Leadbeater and Wedgwood, a "theosophical" Egyptian Rite was created by CWL and Jinarajadasa which is even today supposed not have its existence known even by members of the Adyar Esoteric School. 

Geoffrey Farthing (UK), José Ramón Sordo (Mexico) and Gregory Tillett have publiclly written about such a Leadbeaterian "Egyptian Rite"; and John Algeo, Joy Mills and leading people in the Krotona School of Theosophy (Adyar TS), in Ventura County, California, might better explain this to you. 

It is something secretly located above the very Adyar ES.

It is not connected now to the so-called "co-masonry". 

It was planned to be a secret society in the sense that even its existence should be unknown to all members of the ES -- including third degree pledged -- unless they would be selected for invitation into the "Egyptian Rite" (E.R.). Let alone TS members! 

It also works as a device for political control of the Adyar Movement.

The masonic Egyptian Rite created by Cagliostroin France was authentic and much better than French masonry in those days, as HPB writes. 

But the Leadbeaterian "E.R." is but a result of CWL's pseudo-clairvoyance, and a political instrument, perhaps subconsciously so to many.
