Dear Gary,

Thank you for your critique on "The Attitude of the Enquirer," by C.W.Leadbeater, The Theosophist Office, Adyar, 1912. If that work is anti-HPB, I assure you that's news to me and for my and others' edification would you please list the incidence(s) where he is wrong?

The last thing I want to do is post--or even think--anything contrary to HPB's teaching. If that tract is as bad as you say it is I will take it down immediately. It just seemed like a good universal answer to people's queries as to how they should pursue this new line of thought/study [to them], like it was a good starting point for them. Personally, Leadbeater's books never particularly "clicked" with me but I thought that was his personality or his style and perhaps the fault was mine.

So, if that was indeed a huge error, then I am even more indebted to members of this Group for guidance. I may have quite a few books on Theosophy and have perused them over many years but it has all been a solitary study, a mental study, and I'm trying to start to live it--it has already changed my life for much the better. I suspect I am confused on more than one issue and that's why I am here.

I have already picked up many very very valuable thoughts here. I am a little dismayed to see the divisions, people put down so strongly who I've read a lot--like Annie Besant--and liked. For instance, I ask myself: OK, I guess I see where she went off the reservation at the end but she was a prolific writer and I learned much from her, her style of writing really was understandable to me--I ask: At what date [in her writings] should one disregard her? 1900? 1912? Please let me keep some of it--her introduction in "Esoteric Christianity," for instance, I thought was excellent and I've often recommended it to people to read when asked about religions.

Best Regards,
Your Humble Servant,
Don R.

  Dear Don R.,
Welcome to this site. I've only been on for a few months myself.
I took a quick look at you web site and after looking at your first thing available under esoteric teachings you use Ledbetter's writings that put down HPB. What a shame. What I looked at was the section on the attitude of the student.
