This is the  teaching of self-knowledge and self-responsibility.  

That is Philosophy, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga. 

We harvest what we planted, yet Karma is not only individual. It is also collective, and the borderline between individual and collective karma cannnot be easily established. 

As a result, liberating oneself is also liberating others;  and helping others is helping oneself.   These two operations cannot be separated,  as HPB rightfully wrote in her "Preliminary Memorandum" to the E.S. 

Thus,  Universal Compassion is a key word for the Great Vehicle;  for the Voice of the Silence, id est, the Secret Doctrine, the Heart Doctrine of Mahayana.
