What do we have in theos-talk as a pattern these days? I will give
you a few examples as I see them: postings telling scholars what
they can and what they cannot write about a given subject; an
attempt to obliterate dissent and differences of opinion through
open bullying, intimidation and character assassination; an
enthronization of H. P. Blavatsky as the Apostle of the Ultimate
Truth, and a merciless hunting down of those who criticize her or
who present controversial information about her work for
consideration; a relentless, callous and coward victimization of the
Theosophical Society with International Headquarters at Adyar,
portrayed as the ultimate den of everything dark in the world; and a
practical contempt for the essence of Theosophy - Universal
Brotherhood without distinction.
Mailing lists tend to bring out the worst in people. Someone who in real
life can be a delightful person who is fun to be around can become a pompous,
censorious, puritanical lunatic once they sit down at the keyboard. Which is
the real person? Both and neither. We are not saints, though I think a
couple of people on this list think they are.
Of course being in the Adyar Society, the idea of it being the ultimate den
of everything dark in the world sort of appeals to my perverse sense of
humor. But it also makes me sometimes wonder if certain people are not in fact
agents of the Religious Right, attempting to sow discord among Theosophists
while accusing them of being in the pay of -GASP- the Vatican. After all, who
but a fanatical fundamentalist Baptist would even care what the Vatican or
Jesuits are up to anyway now?
I think Pat Robertson has people writing their mails under assumed names.
