Chuck, Friends, 

Yes, people use to call " fraud" that which they don't like, or they can't understand;  and few "scholars", as we know,  do understand HPB.

It was not quite different with Jesus, Lucius Seneca,  St. John of the Cross,  Miguel de Molinos, Alessandro Cagliostro, Giordano Bruno, W. Judge, and so on.  

In the USA, the well-known 19 century "freethinker" D. Bennett. Mr. Bennett  was a lay chela unknown to himself,  as the "Mahatma Letters" report). 

Yet there IS an objective truth, different from "institutionalized descriptions of truth"; and it eventually prevails in spite of priests  and some "scholars".  

True, sometimes it takes a few thousand years or more. But it still prevails.  
Two examples are the absurd, unacceptable idea that the Earth turns around the Sun in its yearly cycle;  or the Heretic thesis that the Earth  is not the main center of the Universe.  

Both notions were rather quickly accepted by the Vatican --  ask the Opus Dei about that.
