SCHOLARS AND ETHICS

Jul 08, 2006 09:13 AM

Friends,

I'll have to think about that (see below)

HPB wrote that a certain slice of Western Ethics -- the Ethics of superficiality -- is often expressed by the following pseudo principle: "While being unethical, avoid being detected and punished for that".

Yet in the case of Algeo and the "scholars" who circulate "mixed facts and slanders for people to choose" -- they have been overdoing their "job".

An overdose is an overdose.

On the other hand, I do believe there are thousands of decent scholars around the world. Imperfect, but honest. I have a reasonable knowledge about that.

There is a authentic Ethical tradition in the West: Kant, Rousseau, Tolstoy and others, not to mention the classic philosophers.

As to Sidgwick, he wrote a long book on Ethics, but to justify his moral relativism (Utilitarianism) which is also very popular in the West.

Regards, Carlos Cardoso Aveline
