In  effect, doesn't this mean that to be on the spiritual path we must 
conquer all  our desires, including sexual, in order that we can become truly  
altruistic.  Hence why the Buddha walked away from the life of a married  man, his 
wife and his children.  Everything which he probably held dear  had to be let 
go off for the larger family,  humanity.

If that's what a spiritual path really requires it is not worth the  bother.
 
But fortunately, it does not, no matter what anyone says.
