TO BART ON ULTRA-ORTODOX JEWS

Bart,

I cannot name the priests.

You are free to correct my impressions.

I will give you two facts to comment. Perhaps you can recall both of them.

1) A few years ago, a short while before the murder of Mr. I. Rabin, then prime-minister of Israel, Jewish priests said publically that his death would be a good thing to happen. He was then killed by a Jewish ortodox fanatical in a cold-blood act.

2) A couple of months before having a stroke and getting unconscious, Mr. Ariel Sharon, then
Israel's prime minister, was declared sort of "an enemy" by Jewish ultraortodox priests and "comdemned" for unilaterally returning territory to the Palestines. Personal security around Mr. Sharon skyrocketed -- and he had the stroke. Immediately after he got unconscious, amidst the general expressions of grief, some Palestinians celebrated his stroke -- and ultraortodox priests said (BBC-World TV) that "the Angels had heard their prayers"...

3) Let's go beyond these two examples, which I can leave to you to accept or reject, although they are public events and can be checked. It is, I think, a well-known fact that the ultra-ortodox priests fiercely oppose peace and understanding with regard to the Arab and Islamic world.

Until I get better evidence, I tentatively believe these ultra-ortodox religious sectors of Israel are the equivalent of those sectors in the Islam (Al Qaeda, and many others) who use systematic hatred in their view of the West in general and the Jewish people in particular.

There are extremist right-wing Christians who are their Christian equivalent, as Hindu extremists, and so on.

The Prayag Letter, as the 1900 Letter and the Letter 10, deal with this subject, in my opinion.

I will be happy to see your commentaries.

Best regards, Carlos.
