Vince,
One standard definition of Heretic as regards "Heresy" is "away from the
Teaching" or "to be outside the Teaching" as regards the Canon of the Religion.
It is pretty much the same whether it is Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Masonic,
or others. The context is one who does not abide and remain within the agreed
convention of the Dogma. The followers of Mani or Valentinus or a plethora
were regarded and declared Heretic by the dominant Religionists. Though the
followers of Mani deviated from the Dogma and Canon of the early Roman Church they
adhered to the dogma and Canon of their Prophet Mani. So there ya' go.

Welcome,
John
