PREFACE
THE title A Modern Panarion has been taken from the controversial
Panarion of the Church Father Epiphanius in which he attacked the various
sects and heresies of the first four centuries of the Christian era. The
Panarion was so called as being a “basket” of scraps and fragments. We are
told that this Panarion was “a kind of medicine chest, in which he had
collected means of healing against the poisonous bite of the heretical
serpent.”
A Modern Panarion is of a like nature with the intent of the Christian
Father; only in the nineteenth century, heresy has in many instances become
orthodoxy, and orthodoxy heresy, and the Panarion of H. P. Blavatsky is
intended as a means of healing against the errors of ecclesiasticism, dogma
and bigotry, and the blind negation of materialism and pseudo-science.

THE H. P. B. MEMORIAL FUND
In 1891 the following resolutions were passed by all the Sections of
the Theosophical Society :—
Resolved:
1. That the most fitting and permanent memorial of H. P. B.’s life and work
would be the production and publication of such papers, books and
translations as will tend to promote that intimate union between the life
and thought of the Orient and the Occident to the bringing about of which
her life was devoted.
2. That an “H. P. B. Memorial Fund” be instituted for this purpose, to which
all those who feel gratitude or admiration towards H. P. B. for her work,
both within and without the T. S., are earnestly invited to contribute as
their means may allow.
3. That the President of the Theosophical Society, together with the General
Secretaries of all Sections of the same, constitute the Committee of
Management of this Fund.
4. That the Presidents of Lodges in each Section be a Committee to collect
and forward to the General Secretary of their respective Sections the
necessary funds for this purpose.

DTB proposes [ a draft ]
NOTE on “errors”.
Theosophy Company has, as one of its objectives, the reprinting out-of-print
editions of original theosophical books, articles and texts, so that they
may be available “as published” to the modern student.
A MODERN PANARION, FIVE YEARS OF THEOSOPHY, and other written material has
been reprinted with this in view. In some cases the text of these articles,
as reprinted in those books, has even found to have been altered at that
time by now unknown editors, or even their original author, and for unknown
reasons -- as can be seen if they are proof-read and compared today with
their original sources.
Whether those changes were in all cases authorized by the original writers
is now unknown. However, sincere and diligent students will always compare
these reprints with the originals and draw their independent conclusions.
Editors, Theosophy Company

Question:
Is this a project in the works?
The points mentioned are quite a challenge to all students who attempt to
keep the writings of HPB in the forefront of any discussion group. When
people come into a meeting for the first time, there is so much to indicate
to them. When we bump into their current ideas they rebel and miss so much
that could be shared. As Mr. Judge indicates on page 32 of The Scope of
Reincarnation
"Manas is continually deluded while in the body, and being thus deluded is
unable to prevent the action upon it of the forces set up in the life time."
As students it is always helpful to finding Truth to keep this in mind.
Maya always whispers in the ear.
When we acknowledge this and hold our opinions in suspension we can
understand and see more of what HPB is trying to teach us.
Thank you
Laura
