Daniel, your and Boris de Zirkoff's 
explanation is quite correct from my point of 
view.
Only to add, that in the exoteric TS 
recognition of the dogmas of the esoteric 
philosophy is not required.
A theosophist is free to believe what 
he/she/it prefers to believe.
But this freedom has led some superficial 
students to the wrong impression as if 
Theosophy has no distint teachings.
