>From the little book: The original programme of the Theosophical
Society, written by HPB, published Adyar1931:
There were Theosophists and Theosophical schools from the last 2000
years, from Plato down to the mediaeval Alchemists, who knew the
value of the term, it may be supposed.
Therefore, when we are told that"the question is not whether the TS
is doing good, but whether it is doing that kind of good which is
entitled to the name of Theosophy"
Belief in the Masters was never made an article of faith in the
TS.But for its founders, the commands received from Them when it was
established have ever been sacred.
And this is what one of them wrote in a letter preserved to this day:
Theosophy must not represent merely a collection of moral verities, a
bundle of metaphysical Ethics epistomized in theoretical
dissertations.
It has to find objective expression in all embracing code of life
thoroughly impregnated with its spirit of mutual tolerance, charity
and love.
Its followers have to set the example of a firmly outlined and as
firmly applied morality before they get right to point out, even in a
spirit of kindness, the absence of a like ethic Unity and singleness
of purpose in other associations and individuals.
If you would be a theosophist you must not do as those around you do
who call on a God of Thruth and Love and serve the dark POWERS OF
MIGHT,GREED and LUCK.
Theosophy is esoteric philosophy alone, the spiritual and psychic
blending of man with Nature that, by revealing fundamental truths,
can bring that much desired mediate state between the two extremes of
human Egotism and Divine Altruism and finally lead to the alleviation
of human suffering...
Theosophy must be made practical, and has, therefore, to be
disencumbered of useless discussion.....
Best whishes and looking forward,
Christina.L.
