As a lover of TRUTH one must be prepared to recognize it whatever the
source.

As you say study is the answer and an unswerving attention to what is said
and meant – and if necessary, correlation to other statements made earlier
or later in the text.

Now you begin to see why the SECRET DOCTRINE ought not to be abbreviated. as
in such an attempt much of importance is lost. It is a life-time’s study.

Let us take for granted for a moment that we, each of us, is an immortal
SOUL.

And that the whole of the information given in the SECRET DOCTRINE is an
actual HISTORY (see last line S D II, p. 235; Isis I, p. 675-6) of
research done by a college of immortal MAGI – SAGES -- INITIATES –
SODALIANS: who have survived since antiquity, and are trying to make this
process of self-perfection available to all who will grasp the idea, and
work in and on their own natures by a discipline that places the moral
aspect of living foremost. 

This is the most important key. HPB emphasizes this is her The KEY TO
THEOSOPHY

Thanks Dallas for your answer. The "Blavatsky mind" is quite complicated,
and it is a constant struggle to decipher sentence by sentence, it is
certainly not a *game for the lazy*.  I see many gems of wisdom in this
work, and it is a worthwhile read. Thanks again, I only hope that more folks
would contribute answers.

This is an awkward word:  Let me quote you:

ape-like forms in the Third, the preceding Round.  

This question is most likely is English: I am not sure how to translate the
word in red - remove - a stage of shifting?

I'll appreciate your responses.

The word “remove” according to my understanding would be the equivalentof
the word “stage”  or “condition.”

It indicates a level of the growth of intelligence, from INSTINCT,  to MIND
FREEDOM and  INDEPENDENCE.

If I might interpret the statement I would say to myself :  The anthropoid
ape is one stage removed from the man stage in its capacity of
intelligence.  It is still more of an animal than a true, independent,
thinking man”

[For example, this could be illustrated in the difference in the capacity of
intelligence between a human child of 3 or 4, and the same child about 7
years later: between 10 and 13.  

The moral factor, the sense of responsibility and discipline have become
active in the older body, due partly to teaching and experience, and partly
because of the gradual individualization of the mind/soul, that is now able
to say that it understands the results and effects of its individual choices
and consequences, also it has become aware of its “entity existence,” and
can say with greater assurance:  “I” or “ME.” ]

Example:  Imagine that we have a building of several floors.  Each “floor”
is devoted to a range of experience that improves the ability of
intelligence in the forms.

1          on the top floor is MANKIND (as a mass, or group, or stage of
ability)
 
2          On the floor immediately below  (one floor removed from the top)
are the 
                APE,  ANTHROPOID,  SEMI-MAN-- SEMI-ANIMAL group of
beings. [gorilla, chimpanzee, orang-utang, baboon, etc…]
 
3          below that, floor by floor are other species, in the animal
kingdom, and then below that 
 
4          the vegetable kingdom, 
 
5          and then,  the mineral kingdom, etc….
 
I hope this makes it clear.
  
            [Keep in mind what is taught in S D   I  181  -- 
 
 
There are three intertwined lines of evolution in Man
 
1          Spiritual  (MIND or Soul),  WISDOM,  DISCRIMINATION,
IMMORTALITY, RESPONSIBILITY.
                        Quality:  TO BE,  I AM. 
 
2          Psychic   EMOTION,  DESIRE,  PASSION,  
                        Quality :  I WANT TO HAVE,  TO OWN.
 
3          Physical  MATERIAL FORM the supporter of Mind/Moral Soul, and
Desire/Selfish Soul.
                        It has its own separate intelligence, grows, heals
and takes care of itself.
 
 
The DIVINE MAN  (The Prophet, the Sage, the Wise, the Magi) has all three
lines in a self-controlled harmony.  
 
He is wise, disciplined, and lives to benefit mankind.  
 
This is the universal teaching of the WISE. It will be found expressed,
perhaps in different words, in all religions.
