Just thought some of you may find this of interest regarding library
classification systems.
http://www.slais.ubc.ca/courses/libr517/winter2000/Group7/index.htm
In India the classification system used is the 'Colon system' thought
up by Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan.
It's a rather complex (at least to the Western mindset) but very
interesting.
For example it has a category for 'An Occult study of metals' which is
∆(E191) and Occult metabolism which is ∆(G:3)
The ∆ being the symbol used for 'Spiritual experience and mysticism'
