Re: FEMA and the Superdome: Letter to Senator John McCain

Hi Paul,

Yes I think the convention center is about 15 blocks away
from the Superdome.

The point is still valid that on Wednesday
all the major cable news networks were
reporting the dire straits at both facilities and
FEMA was seemingly unaware of the situations or just didn't
seem too concerned.

On Wednesday friends and I were watching all the coverage
and wondering where were the national guard, the military
and FEMA?

During that same Wed. afternoon FOX had a reporter
on one of the freeways where several thousand people
had escaped the floods and none of them had water or
anything to eat and were having to cope with the heat and humidity.
Shepard Smith was extremely upset on the air wondering where FEMA
was with water, food, etc.

As you probably well know, FEMA and all government agencies knew
BEFORE the hurricane hit that it was category 5 and the results
would be catastrophic on the gulf coast. Once the hurricane passed
over the region FEMA should have been ready to airlift water, food,
etc. within the first 48 hours, if not within the first 24 hours.

The people at the superdome, the convention center and on the
freeways were MAJOR concentrations of people who needed urgent and
immediate assistance. National guard troops, etc should also have
been poised to immediately enter the area to quell any violence, etc.

Daniel
