Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon
Man's FORM EVOLUTION ?
Dear Kathy:
As I learn from THEOSOPHY :
Savage and civilized cultures have co-existed since the beginning of time.
They are not would-wide slices in co-existent time, indicating the maturing
of all groups, tribes races at one and the same time.
Look at our present. We have in remote areas hardly a touch of
civilization -- and the "savages" there, uncultured and illiterate, use our
discards as though they were miracles - inexplicable, irreplaceable,
sometimes useless, but in all cases matchless -- and to them valuable.
What use is a watch to them?
This perspective is often lost in civilized areas (see this )
---------------------
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they
carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get
tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored
lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar
in it, but we weren't overweight because
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no
99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell
phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........
WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and
found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us
forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, but we made up games with
sticks and tennis balls, and although we were told it would happen, we did
not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They
actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers
and inventors ever! [ Is it worth advertising? ]
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. [ Are
we better ? ]
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!
--------------------------------
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government [and Greed and Fear ] regulated
our lives for our own good.
And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave
their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with ----------- !!!!,
doesn't it?!
Don't gnash your teeth - you're already on your second or third set! The
dentist will love you!
------------------------------
Back to interpretative and theoretical anthropology:
Take the present cyclonic catastrophe in New Orleans and the So. East U S A,
and, recall that analogy of the last year's end -- the Tsunami in So Asia,
and the Indian Ocean countries.
Suddenly civilization failed. How many could / or were able to cope with
primitive conditions suddenly imposed on them?
How many of us city and town dwellers know anything about current village
life, as it is presently lived there ? -- crops, husbandry, fishing, etc?
To us they are the uncultured -- perhaps we think of them as a lower kind of
human being ?
The "survival skills? Who teaches and who learns them? What are essentials
for self and others? Can we organize them?
Take away electricity, gasoline (petrol), purified water, and the shelter
(and conveniences, such as running water, and sewage disposal) of a home or
an apartment -- who knows how to start a fire with wood, stone and friction?
or with a Sun-lens?
How to keep warm and dry? Where to find shelter? What can we use as a
cooking pot?
Do we know how to swim, or float on water for a while? [A plastic trash bag
stuffed in our pocket takes up little room but it would help us float, if
dumped off a boat in a river, lake or sea -- and with that, we could even
rescue others.]
Do we carry a good pen-knife (or matches in a water-proof container) all the
time?
When we enter a room do we automatically check for the exists?
Need one go on in a practical manner?
"Be Alert, be Prepared!" - is also one of the Theosophical mottoes.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Cass: Another confirmation that Neanderthal and australopithecus shared the
same place at the same time.
----------------------------
ASU researcher Ana Pinto is shedding some light on an age-old mystery in
anthropology: What was the relationship between Neanderthals and early
humans?
When the team's test excavation reached the 12th level, they found what they
had been hoping for: primitive scraping tools, fashioned out of retouched
stone flakes, lying next to bone fragments of some prehistoric feast. The
tools differed from those normally associated with modern humans, indicating
they belonged to a Neanderthal culture.
Given that Pinto's evidence shows that Neanderthals and modern humans shared
a common location at a time when evidence shows that both species may have
been in Europe, it seems likely that the two species would have encountered
one another.
Cass: Keely's invention might still be verified yet!
August 29, 2005
Chemists are several steps closer to teasing hydrogen fuel from water
using man-made molecular devices that collect electrons and use them to
split hydrogen from oxygen.
---------------------------------
Cass: Is Einstein's theory being questioned?
Either of these two scenarios rules out Einstein's cosmological constant. In
their paper Linder and Caldwell show, for the first time, how to cleanly
separate Einstein's idea from other possibilities. Under any scenario,
however, dark energy is a force that must be reckoned with.
---------------------------------------------------
Image: Today's universe is expanding at an accelerating rate because dark
energy counteracts the force of gravity. In the early universe matter was
closer together, and gravity still slowed its expansion.
Says Linder, "Because dark energy makes up about 70 percent of the content
of the universe, it dominates over the matter content. That means dark
energy will govern expansion and, ultimately, determine the fate of the
universe."
In 1998, two research groups rocked the field of cosmology with their
independent announcements that the expansion of the universe is
accelerating. By measuring the redshift of light from Type Ia supernovae,
deep-space stars that explode with a characteristic energy, teams from the
Supernova Cosmology Project headquartered at Berkeley Lab and the High-Z
Supernova Search Team centered in Australia determined that the expansion of
the universe is actually accelerating, not decelerating. The unknown force
behind this accelerated expansion was given the name "dark energy."
Prior to the discovery of dark energy, conventional scientific wisdom held
that the Big Bang had resulted in an expansion of the universe that would
gradually be slowed down by gravity. If the matter content in the universe
provided enough gravity, one day the expansion would stop altogether and the
universe would fall back on itself in a Big Crunch. If the gravity from
matter was insufficient to completely stop the expansion, the universe would
continue floating apart forever.
"From the announcements in 1998 and subsequent measurements, we now know
that the accelerated expansion of the universe did not start until sometime
in the last 10 billion years," Caldwell says.
Cosmologists are now scrambling to determine what exactly dark energy is. In
1917 Einstein amended his General Theory of Relativity with a cosmological
constant, which, if the value was right, would allow the universe to exist
in a perfectly balanced, static state. Although history's most famous
physicist would later call the addition of this constant his "greatest
blunder," the discovery of dark energy has revived the idea.
---------------------------------------------------
Image: Dark energy is an exotic repulsive force that could make up as much
as three-quarters of the cosmos. Possibilities include a cosmological
constant or dynamical quintessence, both of which can be represented by
scalar fields, like a field of springs covering every point in space. For a
cosmological constant (left), each spring would be the same length and
motionless. For quintessence (right), each spring would be stretched to a
different length.
