I agree Bart, however these types of statements give us an idea of
the mindsets that have effected cultures in different ways.
I have not suggested that everything Aquinas wrote was "objectionable"
Your "lesson in logic" is a good one though.
A writer who has written a very good thesis on this imo is Matthew
Fox in his books 'Original Blessing' and 'The coming of the Cosmic
Christ heres one quote from the latter work that makes a good point I
think.
"Of course, the issue of justice and sexuality include justice for
sexual minorities and the struggle for a society without sexism.
The struggle for justice towards women and towards the mother
principle which is being beset by what I refer to as matricide is
part and parcel of every authentic cultural sexual awakening today.
But matricide also includes within it a kind of patricide as well.
The father will become distorted in this process for there is no
mother without a father.
A distorted fatherhood is what a pathological patriarchy is all
about."
