Hi there

Like Ryan, I am a new member to the group, although I've been observing and learning from all of you for some months now. Thanks Ryan for providing the impetus for me to become participative !! I doubted that I would have anything of value to offer to all you extremely well-read and learned "guru's" out there.... but maybe my own introduction will in itself encourage others to participate.

I admit to having been somewhat overwhelmed by the volume, depth and nature of your (pl) submissions - whew! There's a lot to read, learn and think about - and I often have difficulty studying / pursuing all of the day's offerings before the next batch arrive... Like Marie, I love your emails Dallas - where on earth do you find the time to research and submit each of them? Your discussion on MEDITATION has been especially reassuring. And Cass, your links and news are always a treat. I value Bart's references to further reading, and Frank's comments on a topic always make one think. It's interesting how one's character emerges through the writing. Eldon, you must feel like these people are your "other family".

I live with my family (hubby + 2 pre-teen daughters) in Hilton in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, am double Ryan's age, and have been a student of theosophy since the age of 14, although I didn't know that that's what it was called until about 10 years ago. I've subscribed to the on-line Theosophy Magazine since issue #70 or thereabouts. My initial reading and learning was sourced mainly by Alice A. Baileys' books being those written by the Tibetan Djwahl Kuhl and published by Aart Juriaanse, a publisher here in South Africa. Over time, and with the advent of the electronic age, my reading base has broadened to the writings of other Masters and pioneers especially HPB.

As a working Mum (I am a survey pilot and therefore away from home alot) the time I can dedicate to my studies is very limited, and also very much a lone thing: outside of my own Mum, herself a "closet theosophist", my family being an orthodox Anglican/Methodist environment think I'm a little off-the-rails. However, I hope though that my day-to-day living and philosophies will inspire in my daughters and friends enough for them to think outside of the orthodox and so become students of theosophy themselves. Time will tell.

I think that's enough of an introduction, don't you? I will continue to download my daily digest from all of you special people with enthusiasm and unrestrained impatience, but won't "clutter up the airspace" unnecessarily ; if I feel strongly enough about a topic or have a burning question that I can't resolve on my own, I will offer my thoughts at the time. Until then, keep writing, and best regards,

Shelley Steijl
