Re: a simple question

Dear Pedro:

May thanks. This is a matter that concerns HPB, the Masters and all of us
who may have elected to try to become Their chelas. I believe this process
is one that continues for many lives as we try to improve our lower self.

I see the extract comes from Number 10 Letter, on p. 52-3 of the Barker
edition of MAHATMA LETTERS

Your help IS much appreciated.

I believe the statement exists: "Theosophist is who THEOSOPHY does."

People may call (or be designated by others) themselves members of any sect,
creed, religion, society, association, country, race, nation, what-not ---
they still at heart remain what they truly ARE. I mean, the universally
diffused Higher Self linked to the Higher Mind ( Buddhi-Manas).

The external veneer or layer, if not penetrated, serves as a barrier to true
understanding. Each one of us, (as I see it) knows who and what we are
morally worth, and this is a secret no one else save the Master knows.

As you observe, if this Letter 10 has, by internal evidence, the quality of
the Master's mind and hand, then the purely physical means of its conveyance
are secondary matters and if these are considered of significance, they may
divert (in the case of some people) attention from the inner TRUTH.

Each such "meeting," in my view, is one of the tests of the "chela's"
progress, I believe. May we all succeed and benefit humanity.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dear Dallas:

Thank you very much for your reply and its broad perspectives. As we
know, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are God-centred religions.
There may be variations in their view of God but all the three
traditions maintain that the existence of God is profoundly intrinsic
to their faith.

The passage from Letter 10 (MAHATMA LETTERS), which I included in my
original post, demolishes the idea of God absolutely and completely.

It is, of course, known that the original of such Letter is not a
part of the unique collection housed in the British Museum.

Only its transcription by A. P. Sinnett is available there. However,
internal
evidence from other Letters in the ML provides evidence that Letter
10 is consistent with the teachings of the Mahatmas on this subject.

If the Mahatmas, HPB's Teachers, are a recognizedly authoritative
source in Theosophy, the notion of a personal God, as found in
Judaism, Christianity and Islam, has no place in it, has it? And if
that is so, adherents of such faiths cannot be Theosophists without
surrendering their notion of a personal God. But they may still be
students of Theosophy.

Can you comment on the relevant passage of Letter 10? Thank you.
