An explanation which contradicts evidence does not explain it and
hence is not an explanation, although it might be a highly esteemed
and well funded theory.

Certainly it is. As well as Darwinian evolution, Big Bang, creation of
life out of a primordial soup with thunder & lightning (or, as an
alternative, sowing its seeds from space where it must have been
mechanically created somehow anyway) and so on...
