But ultimately the ravingest lunacy is the assumption that an author
who writes about the founder of a spiritual movement is *in
competition* with the person they are writing about. All that
business about the relative spiritual worth of HPB and KPJ is just
so weird. It's as if anyone writing about Jesus historically were
accused of claiming to be the Messiah!

I've probably been lucky in that I've actually met a couple of ULT people
over the years who exhibited signs of sanity. Of course appearances can be
deceiving and I'm a notoriously bad judge of character.
What amazing about the hysteria you seem to cause them is that the people
attacking you really do seem to think you are an agent of some power determined
to destroy their spiritual existence. Of course given their behavior such a
power would certainly deserve whatever support it could be given if it actually
existed.
The old saying, "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad," would
seem to apply and indicate that the gods, whomever they may be, really dislike
the ULT.
Though I think it would be fun to take away their prune juice and watch them
die of constipation.
