Olcott himself had stated that when the TS was launched, he and HPB were
told by the Founders not what they should do but what they should not do
and the objective was pointed out so that Olcott and HPB can work towards
it to the best of their ability.
As for the Ancient Wisdom - Theosophy -- what ever that has been written
down and whatever that is going to be written down in present and future is
still second hand and incomplete. When this is kept in view, the question
does not arise about following what X, Y or Z said or written. What is more
important is our own personal understanding of what has been mentioned in
the writings as well as our own personal discovery. This is hard work and
personal growth like everything else has a price to pay. After all it is
the life of each individual not that of someone else.
