One of the things that you have to watch out for in the Wikipedia is
that ANYONE can edit the document. Also, it is an evolving document ...
as mistakes are found, they are corrected ... but the official editors
can see all changes. Finally, you have to remember that all information
in such a document cannot be claimed to be completely neutral. They even
put a disclaimer about the disputed neutrality at the TOP of the page.
Anyway, looking at a few items of what you excerpted:
Wikipedia excerpt says:
... When Ratzinger turned 14 in 1941,
he joined the Hitler Youth. According to National Catholic Reporter
When I read the article earlier this afternoon, and read it again just
now, there are a few extra words.
< When Ratzinger turned 14 in 1941, he joined the Hitler Youth, as
< then required by a 1938 German law.
Interesting, somebody deleted the 1938 law information before you saw
the page, then put it back afterward. Or did you copy this information
before I read it, which was this afternoon when somebody else sent the
Wikipedia link to the list.
I certainly would not call someone who did something that was required
by law a "member". If I did something because a policeman told me to do
it, I wouldn't consider that to be an act of my own free will.
Your extract continues:
According to National Catholic Reporter
correspondent and biographer John Allen, Ratzinger was a highly
enthusiastic member who followed the nazi ideals. He was known for
Again, this seems to be different from what I saw this afternoon, and
what is there right now:
< According to National Catholic Reporter correspondent and
< biographer John Allen, Ratzinger was an unenthusiastic member
< who refused to attend meetings.
I will admit that some people will say that this information is suspect
because it comes from a church publication, but when you also look at
the presented information that talks about his father:
< The Sunday Times of London summed up his father's career:
< "His father, also called Joseph, was an anti-Nazi whose attempts
< to rein in Hitler’s Brown Shirts forced the family to move several times."
I suggest that anybody that wants to know what Wikipedia says about the
subject should go there and read it for themselves. Don't trust me that
I've pasted correct information, because I could have used the EDIT
function to make changes. (Earlier tonight, I edited the page here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gouranga with information that I found ab
out it (I was spammed))
