I am content that it was of any help.
We at home started stydying these facts from our personal experiences in life.
We have met dugpas in flesh and bone and the experience was not pleasant.
I thought that the book of Dion Fortune/Violet Church was ficcion untill wedwelt it all.
To help someone someone like what you said it is not as simple.
IMO, the best way is first to check if the influence is really coming from outside or if the disturb is not originated in the way the person live andprincipally - THINK.
It may also be intimately linked with karma...ancestrality...genetic factors other than purely magick.
So, it is pretty wide.
Let me try:
Our thoughts occupy "space" in its original plane of existence, so they areTHINGS.
The repetition of these thoughts create unified fields or chaotic fields and by their nature it can, also according to many excerpts of what CWL and Arthur Powell said, atract similar patterns, increasing greatly its power.
Our generating loving thoughts and directing them also may be of some help but depending on the case it is not enough.
The best way also to offer any help it CAN be on contacting someone who has2 faculties :a great clairvoyance and honesty of principles - the latter is the hardest to find...
Xamanist techniques also help because in the xamanic voyages and transe of an honest xaman to many of it can be given a clean soluction.
The xaman, principally among the native americans, also the Canadian and Alaska“s were great " soul scientists.", nowadays the worst part is to pickup someone who is clean and honest.
Trying to live among and repeatedly help people with such problems may increase yours, so be cautious to try to help because you cannot see the forcesinvolved. A harmonic and positive thought can also protect you when helping.

Thank goodness there is someone who can explain these type of incidents in real life terms. God bless you. Please cc me anything you think may increase my understanding. I also have another question for you, I believe that someone I know may be under the influence of the dark forces. Is there anything I can do to help this person get back on track other than sending them thoughtforms of love? I can see in this person, personality flips, andthey definitely are not psychological malfunctions, schitzophrenic, bi-polar etc. its more than that

Dugpas - also called Brothers of the Shadow 

Brothers of the Shadow. A name given by the Occultists to Sorcerers, and especially to the Tibetan Dugpas, of whom there are many in the Bhon sect of the Red Caps (Dugpa). The word is applied to all practitioners of black or left hand magic. (ibidem)

Some personal explanations:

The basic matter of these assaults are the concentrated thought forms ( magick ), induced artificially or created by rituals.
In these rituals not only the thought-forms created are used but also theelementaires. 
There are cases in which the elementaires or any "rupas" are not used butthe thought-forms are so huge that they do the wickedness themselves.
The effect although physical, will hardly originate from a - let“s call- materialized dugpa, but always using the subtle planes.
There are zillions of types of creatures that are used to do the work, from bizarre zoomorphic forms to semi-intelligent beings, malformed or not, inhabitants of very lower levels.
The attacks, to cut the story short, are:
Much (if not ) of all the things in physical form is also made of ethericmatter. 
It is said that many diseases prior to the manifestation in the flesh have their origin in the ethereal field, so objects and illness of all kinds can be generated and directed to you.
If the thusly be an inexplicable weakness, a headache, a difficult in seeing, access of spasms, sluggishness, lowering and difficulty in thinking, acting, recognizing. 
The harm can lower your creativity and vitality of many kinds.
Remember that many ordinary people during the day are common persons, butby night they can act differently.
The dugpa doesn“t come in uniform, you know, it can be anyone among millions, and if they are conscious from their nature they can recognize you.
It is said that many enemies end up acquainted across incarnations and iIwitnessed a case in which the dark-brother recongnized the enemy and also recognized the fellow.Incredible.
It all looks like freak talking...but it“s true.
