Is Theosophy its organizations, its teachers, or its teachings?

To all true theosophists.

In the light of one particular (we all know who it is) self proclaimed guru's
continuing denigration of HPB (and by association, the Masters) along with
gratuitous and assertive proselytizing (to us Western and Eastern theosophists
who know better) of the religiously oriented and dogmatic pseudo theosophical
teachings of AB, CWL and AAB and their distorted metaphysics (that were
originally designed to attract gullible Indians who were steeped in and fed up with
their Brahmanical ruled, caste separating religion, as well as to appeal to the
Christian majority and their Brahman-like power structures in both Europe and
America) -- in order to build up the membership of the already discredited
(by the Masters) Adyar TS -- which organization now appears to have become a
narrow minded Neo-theosophical cult that has little to do with either the
original Theosophical Society founded in New York by HPB and WQJ (under the direct
guidance of the Masters) or with any other spin-off theosophical group-study
associations such as ULT and the various online forums devoted to the true
theosophical teachings of occult metaphysics along with the Heart Doctrine (neither
of which has changed since the most ancient times)... I thought it might be
appropriate to reprint this short essay published some time ago in the
Theosophy World newsletter...

ON THEOSOPHY
By Leon Maurer

"Someone might say that theosophy is a method of dealing with life.

True, but it also is a body of thought based on fundamental principles.
It concerns the origin and genesis of the Cosmos, its reflection in the
evolution of humanity, and the nature of being in general.
One does not have to believe in it without thoughtful consideration,
but rather verify it as a true synthesis of science, religion and philosophy.

How does one do this?

One looks within, while studying the fundamental
ideas about the actual nature of reality and practices "living the life"
and fulfilling one's duties--while also meditating on those truths in
relation to one's own inner nature that leads to self realization--all
the time empowered by self-devised and self-determined efforts.

Though these means, one finds and follows one's Teacher of the art of
living and being that is one's own higher self, the direct reflection of
the all wise and all knowing universal soul. Otherwise, one might spend
a whole life following the "gurus" and doing good works only to find in
the end that the real teacher is within... And that learning, at each stage
of the way, can awaken in a single moment as a bright flash of pure
intuitional insight.

Thus, the theosophical experience leading to an understanding of Universal
Brotherhood and its expression in relationships with others can only
come about following a budding relationship with that true Master within.
That is the only learning system of value in the end. "Theosophy is as
theosophy does" and "Physician, heal thyself" perfectly reflects this.

Theosophy has no relationship to organized groups or the idolatry they
might or might not promote. It directs solely to the self within. This is so
we attain our individual self-realization or enlightenment, which has no
dependence on authority, beliefs, rituals, or faith in idols or teachers."
