I already wrote about these fast paths. An essential difference is
that in all of them the guru is of prime importance. Trying to follow
them without guru not only dangerous but even foolish. I can refer
you to the books by Namkhai Norbu rinpoche, where he explains
that though Dzogchen isn't confined by any dogma or religious
system and is rather a state of direct knowledge yet it is handed
down the line of Masters. And without getting the "transmission"
(rlung) from a Master we can't begin with practice of Dzogchen.
The same is true for all tantric systems. The only safe way without
support of the master recommended by buddhist teachers for those who
have no access to gurus is the progressive sutra path.
