Dear Cass:
Very tentatively: the beginning of a new cycle brings with it
opportunities for (or access to) a spiritual awakening, perhaps
because in it there is more fresh energy, newness, inspiration, as
it is (hopefully) a movement of renewal.
But if our physical, emotional and intellectual constitutions are
not, shall we say, ready for it, then it can be a roller coaster
ride. I think the Grofs explored this aspect in their
book "Spiritual Emergency".
I have a friend in Brazil who almost died after practising some
meditation exercises (kundalini-oriented) taught to him by members
of a pseudo-gnostic sect founded by a guy in Mexico who claimed he
was the Avatar for the Aquarian age. As a result of his practice, my
friend started suffering from hyperthermia and at critical moments
had to be thrown under the shower, clothes and all, to find
temporary relief.
But I have digressed.
