The correct terminology was "root races" perhaps you could use "root stocks" but I am not sure if it is appropriate to change the teaching without a referal to the original wording.

This information was given to me many years ago and I am not sure of the source, so you may need to cross check it with HPB's information.

As I am preparing an introduction to some basic teachings of the 
theosophical literature I am kind of trapped with the term races and 
sub-races. 

Today the term races has a racist connotation what term could be 
used instead of races? Civilizations? Any suggestion will be 
welcome.
