All it would take would be someone whose wife was into Theosophy to say to a
politician that maybe it was not in the best interests of the police
commissioner or his Australian counterpart to continue the investigation lest some
embarrassing information about his son be leaked to the press. The word would go
down from top and the matter would be declared unprovable.
If you know the right people, law enforcement is very easily intimidated.
I've seen it done.
