If anything, I was hoping you might comment
directly on his statement.
Well, I've read the statement, and I've read it in context as well. And
the context of this whole conversation has been whether or not
Leadbeater is valid as a spiritual teacher in the light of the
accusations and evidence of his behavior towards children in his charge.
I find myself in an unusual position of not thinking particularly highly
of his teachings, finding them only important in their influence on
others. I have been told that the Theosophical Society (Adyar) treats
him as a major source, but have not personally seen this. So, to me, the
question of should he be treated in a way I have not seen him treated
based on acts that we are not sure he has committed is kind of ridiculous.
Did he act inappropriately based on the time and place he was in?
Certainly. Were the children abused? I wouldn't make any bets that they
weren't. But I wouldn't make a bet I couldn't afford to lose that they
were, either.
