Actually, I think he wanted to save money by not burning candles.
It was on the news that there was a tsunami in Lisbon some years
ago. On the theory that the Christian deity was pissed off royally,
his earthly representatives, Catholic priests, summarily hanged
anyone to whom they owed money or who had a negative attitude toward
all the child molestation they were doing and it must have worked.
They have not had a tsunami since. Religion to the rescue.
Maybe some priests should go to Indonesia and Sri Lanka and hang a
few people if only in effigy, eh? If so, they should start with the
officials whose negligence caused all this in the first place.
