It was while I was working at the ASPR [American
Society for Psychical Research: http://www.aspr.com/ ]
in New York, interacting with Alex [Tanous]quite a
bit, that my own first OBEs happened. In the first
situation, I had a very vivid dream which involved
traveling to a friend's house about forty miles away.
A couple of days later, my friend, who has more than
just the average smattering of psychic ability, asked
me if I had had a dream about visiting her on the
night in question. When I replied "Yes, how did you
know?" (a silly question, perhaps), she said that I
had been there, "physically." Apparently, I had
somehow been seen and touched by her (her dog reacted
to me as well) at the time I believed I had been home
dreaming. Now, assuming that I didn't sleep-drive to
her house forty miles away, she either actually saw
me, picked up on my dream psychically, or was just
making a lucky guess.
Wait, there's more.
Two weeks later, I was at another friend's bachelor
party, becoming very bored (sorry about that, Mike)
while the other guys were watching a few of those
colorful super-8 movies. I stood in the kitchen,
fixing a drink and feeling a bit strange. Having felt
the same way before when I had a few other experiences
(my best psychic state appears to be boredom), I
suddenly had the sensation of being in two places at
once. I was in Mike's kitchen and I was also standing
in my friend Danita's living room (same person as in
the previous OBE). We had a short conversation,
partly about the bachelor party, partly about other
things, and I recall her saying she knew I was having
an OBE and was only "dropping in." I mentioned that
I'd write down a few notes when I "got back" to
Mike's, and said good-bye. I found paper and pen,
wrote a few notes (time, conversation details, etc.),
which coincided with what Danita remembered about the
situation.
