HPB's "Spirit"

Dec 12, 2004 09:26 AM
by Andrew W. Smith

One thing Theosophists need badly today is HPB's and HSO's spirit of
debunking the complete idiocy of a lot of New Age ideas. They were
very successful in investigating and exposing the "spirit rappings"
and other table-tipping and such stuff, which led them to the reality
of Theosophy. Today we have "channellers" coming out our "ying-yang"
and new "revelations" spring up faster than we can even read them.
Weiser Books and Quest and a few others are pretty good at keeping to
reality, but there are more "Pleidian channellers" spinging up than
you can count. Erica has been excellent at debunking, or graciously
rejecting, a lot of this stuff, but we need to keep "on our toes"
individually as well. I mentioned Harold Percival's "Thinking and
Destiny" because of one idea in it, not to endorse the book---which I
don't. The same applies to "The Urantia Book" and "Oahspe" and
hundreds of others. The truth is not "out there" (TV), it is in us.
We need to seek the divine in ourselves as HPB taught. I'm as
fascinated with the universe as anyone, but what we see so far is a
plethora of fiery anamolies that we have yet to make sense of
scientifically. HPB's "Secret Doctrine" has come the closest to
making sense of it, and that's no doubt why Einstein was interested
in the book. Theosophists! Open your eyes and stop contemplating
your navels and trying to find your "astral bodies"! As HPB
said: "The time for thinkers has come."
