Dear C:

Let us suppose that it is a figurative "door." It is not recommending we go
to any lodge or society, or any advertised group to learn anything about the
inner self and its rules and ways, or of true ancient occultism.

What THEOSOPHY does is to state the parameters of the INNER SELF as
discovered by generations of Wise Men -- the Mahatmas.

There is no way one can "pay" for occult progress. It is entirely an inner
and a self-regulated moral attitude of practical brotherhood to be used and
employed in all relations.

There is also no pledge or "selling of one's soul" that can open the "door"
to true occultism. Reason it out -- the logic is plain.

We have to consider the rest of the world to be made up of immortal beings
--- take for example the concept Science has of the atom as an eternal
moving mechanism -- why? They can't say. But they say that the properties
of all materials are wrapped up in this one immovable and easily provable
fundamental. But the concept includes all of physical nature and thus, even
from this physical side it implies a vast BROTHERHOOD. Science is still
unable to get "behind" the physical and discover the reason why these rules
and laws are set down by "mother" NATURE. But they are.

Science merely continues to discover what NATURE has already established
since ages. So there is nothing new under the Sun." We only prove it as we
proceed., the proof is always to ourselves.

When the "atom of life" reaches the "human stage" where it learns outthink
independently ,as we do, then the practice of brotherhood is reasonable and
also mandatory. We assume full responsibility for our actins and thoughts
and feelings. There is no "escape," and no plea bargaining (with a mythical
"God") to avoid the results of what we do.

Call it the :door to the inner heart" where the true Man (the HIGHER SELF)
resides always.

What I mean to convey was that the intuitions we secure from our HIGHER SELF
are likely to be garbled because we have not yet acquired the secret of
avoiding, or passing through the “astral light” (or the inner “psychic
sphere”) without being confused and muddled by what is there.

So, on this side, we have to review any “intuitions” we secure, and seeif
they are universal and impersonal – then they more closely might be derived
from the HIGHER SELF and from the UNIVERSAL AND UNALTERABLE RECORD OF
BUDDHI-WISDOM or THEOSOPHY.

This why, taking a while to think things through, and above all, use one's
"common sense," is terribly important.

One clue I offer: How is it possible to administer (for example) -=- (1)
our own physical, bodies and the billions of cells, molecules, atoms and
other structures that compose its integrity; -=- (2) our Earth -- with
millions of diverse beings composing mineral, vegetable, animal and human
categories ; --=- (3) the entire UNIVERSE in its enormous complexity unless
from a vast antiquity a framework of rules and administrators had not been
evolved?

Our little minds are boggled by such concepts, but they are not to be
discarded. I offer this because, in trying to answer, we secure a view of
the vast problems that NATURE (or DEITY) has already settled down for
hundreds of ages.

Why should we imagine that we are anything special and an exception from all
the rest? Yet, because of our own existence, we are something special and
necessary to all the rest. So we are confronted with the same rules and
regulations that all the rest of the universe is. But we have a partial
autonomous control over our bodies and their health. It is conceivable that
as we grow in knowledge and wisdom we may participate in assistance in the
control and management of increasing larger concerns.

But first, I say, we ought to learn to handle our own (1) physical and
personal environment, and that is not only physical, but includes the (2)
astral electro-magnetic model body (on which the atoms, molecules and cells
arrange themselves); and within that, there are said to be (3) the "life
currents;" then, (4) the "psychic or emotional "body;" and above that in
power and responsibility, is (5) the mental "body," where moral and ethical
decisions are debated and decided upon after choice; and finally (6) the
realm of wisdom and law which we are also able to contact and refer to.
Finally in and above and everywhere is (7) the ONE UNIVERSAL SPIRIT.

This is the reason why in THEOSOPHY the 7 principles of man and nature are
continually referred to. [ S D I 157-8; II 596 ]

Of course this is all explained in far greater detail in The KEY TO
THEOSOPHY and The OCEAN OF THEOSOPHY .

Dear Dallas

So, does this mean that before a Disciple knocks on the door, that "The
attitude to be assumed, then, is that of doing every act, small and
great, trifling or important, because it is before us to do, and as a mere
carrying out by us as instruments of the will of that Deity who is
ourself."
