You forgot a detail, Gandhi was also a member of the Theosophical
Society, and Annie Besant as much you may categorize her is
considered the mother of India. The India people loves and respect
her deeply, not only they are very thankful for her.
By the way the first person to call Gandhi as Mahatma was Annie
Besant during a meeting she organized in Adyar this is a historical
fact. Now you may categorize Annie Besant as you wish as many do so,
but this will not change the historical influence of Besant, and the
place she conquered in the heart of the Indian people.
