Re: freedom of divagation

Dear Friends:

As I understand it, the "return" of the same ancient "influence" is
inevitable. It is also continuous.

One reason is -- it never left us.

We err when we desire the same familiar form to reappear as evidence of
continuity. The real continuity is always in terms of the intent, method
and "style."

To detect it demands that we study what has already been provided. If we
neglect that, then what use is providing us with further information?

In our ways of regarding movements we look to numbers of members or of
adherents. We don't ask about their quality or ability. In the case of
THEOSOPHY or of occultism we are dealing with the universal "path-road"
towards inner moral and true SPIRITUAL perfection. The outward expression
of these is not always seen or detectable.

If present it is often missed.

For this reason if we go to the basic scriptures of Great ancient Sages we
find them emphasizing the ethical and moral aspects of co-existence.

In Christianity we have "The Sermon on the Mount."
In Buddhism we have the "Dhammapada" ( Footfalls of the Law).
In Hinduism, we have the "Bhagavad Gita" (The Lord's Song).
In Judaism we have the basic injunctions of all their Prophets.

And so on for every sect.

It is to be noted that differences which arise are generally centered on
exterior ritualism and observances, the moral structure is usually not
altered.

In the history of the past 125 + years regarding the THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT
we find that exteriorly (esoterically) there have been changes of rules and
forms, and "Leaders" have arisen -- and around them have clustered "true
believers." But the study of THEOSOPHY -- has that increased? Has the
individual life of the many "members, associates, adherents, etc... " been
altered by the philosophy ? Has the ideal of a practical "brotherhood"
been made the pivotal basis for life?

Of course these questions are to be considered and answered each one for
themselves. We cannot draw conclusions about others. In other words: "Mind
your own business."

It was Jesus who said we were not to consider the "mote" in the eye of
another but rather the large "post" in one's own eye. This kind of change
of attitude has to be done inwardly, as outward measures are usually faulty.

If we consider as valid the idea that the immortal Spiritual Being is within
ourselves, and is the REAL MAN, then automatically we are all brothers.
And, we have been "brothers" since endless aeons in the past, and will
continue to be so into the future.

It is not a far-fetched idea to suppose that Masters, HPB, or their
representatives have visited at appropriate times various lodges or spoken
to chosen "members." But since they do not wear the same appearance as the
photographs those "teachers and messengers" show they wore then -- they may
have been unrecognized.

If we set aside this possibility, then let us also ask ourselves: "Am I
worthy of such a visit?" "Have I contributed to the THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT?"
"Am I working for "Master's CAUSE?" "Am I devoting my life to assisting
their humanity?"

The VOICE OF THE SILENCE directs attention to the "Heart Doctrine." Do we
know what that means? Do we study, read and use it regularly?

As an example: Sri Krishna said "I am the Ego seated in the heart of all
beings." Jesus at one point turned to his disciples and said: "Know ye not
ye are gods?" [John 10:34-5]

What are we in our innermost self?

Best wishes,

Dallas

PS

I just see Daniel Caldwell has posted the following

--------------------------

"In a letter I am transcribing for my next book, H.P. Blavatsky writes to
an aspirant:

"There are many things I could tell you but cannot write them; but in
looking up to the Mahatmas and aspiring to be their disciple you will have
the surest guides and the greater safety - "for those who know the truth of
all things will teach you."

Just a divagation on the theme:

If you permit I'd rather compare this situation to the new-born Christians
and related, they expect the return of Christ according to their
interpretation on certain texts taken from the Bible but they'd all refute
any other saviour claiming to be Jesus. Even in the vague hypothesis of his
being really Him.
A fellow, new-born Christian, asked me if I believed in the real return of
Jesus Christ and all that I thought at the moment is that I should say: "No,
Christ is clever, if he comes back he'll be killed again by you all."
I also think that the Masters never abandoned us, they are still working for
the progress of mankind in an occult way. But if one of them decided to make
a visit to a theosophical lodge, what would he think? Or, would he be
welcome or laughed at?
