Unfortunately, the term "homophobia" is commonly used to describe any 
opposition to an activist gay agenda. If, for example, you believe that 
gays should have civil unions rather than gay marriage, that is often 
labeled as "homophobia". I have been called homophobic for daring to ask 
exactly what aspects of marriage gay people want, and suggesting that it 
might be more effective to go after them individually than to push for 
gay marriage. If you believe that contact tracing should be used for 
AIDS, that is often labeled as "homophobia". The term itself is bogus, 
combining Greek and Latin roots.
