I did not know things were ever interesting there.

If it matters, homophobia is an instance of what psychologists
call "reaction formation," a defense mechanism in which one reacts
strongly to an attribute in others which he finds repulsive in
himself. Thus reformed cigarette smokers cannot stand to be around
smokers, people who have secret doubts about Theosophy cannot stand
people who openly profess their doubts, etc.

There is a hokey preacher who is always appearing on talk shows all
the time, who made the statement on television one time that homos
are actually hetero males who are "misbehaving." This was before I
acquired a remote control, so I was unable to practice my usual
regimen of turning him off before one of his idiotic comments
infiltrated my consciousness. Anyway, when I heard that, I almost
fell out of my chair, since there is no way an exclusively hetero
male would make a comment like that. That is when I realized "jerry"
is bisexual.

There was an article in DETAILS a few years ago about this preacher's
anti homo crusade, which according to the article shored up his
bottom line after years of declining sales. What made the article
worth reading was that the organizer of the crusade was prowling gay
bars at night after organizing the Moral Majority's outrage against
homosexuals during the day. An ounce of hypocrisy is worth a pound
of self righteousness.

When fellow holy roller Pat Robertson saw his rival raking in the
profits he started a crusade of his own. No sense letting "jerry"
take all the loot. So (this is another example of the peril of not
having a remote control) I saw about ten seconds of "Pat's" TV show
one day in which he was marketing an educational video about the
homosexual menace. It looked to this observer very much like "pat"
was marketing a homosexual porno video and that on a "christian"
television show. It reminded me of that dodge porn peddlers used to
use years ago in which they would market their stuff as "educational."

I immediately implemented my mental hygiene regimen as I do every
time either of these characters come on TV by changing the channel.
Later when I saw the article in DETAILS I learned that porn was
EXACTLY what the video was, and that they were simply flying off the
shelves at $29.95 a crack. Apparently the holy rollers need
to "educate" themselves about this menace to their moral purity.

So what kind of man or woman wants to spend that much money for
homosexual pornography? It has no appeal whatever to me. I would
almost rather listen to Robertson than watch that. So what kind of
person inhabits Robertson's congregation? And what does that say
about the psychological motivation for their crusade?

We know what kind of man Robertson is beause of his bid to menace the
world a few years ago by running for President. We know he is a liar
(he says it is just "lack of precision") and we know his commitment
to sexual purity is not as heroic as he says it is. When he was
stationed in Korea while in the service he was called "non specific
drip Pat." Draw your own conclusions.
