Listening to the 2004 San Diego Theosophical Conference

by Eldon B Tucker

Last weekend, an annual Theosophical Conference was held in Southern
California. This was its tenth year. It originally was put on by ULT
theosophical students in Brookings, California, but has grown in size and
widened in scope to embrace active Theosophists from all the major
organizations.

There was a guided field trip to Point Loma on Friday. The estate where
Katherine Tingley and G. de Purucker had their theosophical community was
shown. A college now occupies the property. Following the tour, a slide show
of the early history of the commune and some of its key figures was
presented.

On Saturday, Michael Gomes spoke on "The Dawn of the Theosophical Movement"
and James Santucci on "Theosophical History: "A Metahistory." Then followed
an "Audio/Visual Presentation of Sounds and Colors" by Kelly Krotine, Dennis
Chavez, and Alex Bianc. Reed Carson came next speaking on "Theosophy,
Science, and the Internet," and Alan Donant led an "Open Discussion of
Theosophic Ideas and Their Implication for Social Issues."

On Sunday, there were three workshops. I attended the first led by Carin
Elin on "Theosophical Publications." Sally Colbert coordinated a second on
"Alternates in Presenting Theosophical Teachings." The third was led by
Roberto Lupercio on "Hispanci Contributions to Theosophical Themes." All
workshops were offered at the same time, so one had to choose which to
attend.

David Roef then spoke on "Metaphysics of Forgiveness," and was followed by
the Santa Barbara Theosophical Children presenting the play "The Richest
Person in the World."

An audio recording was made of the talks on Saturday and Sunday, and of the
Theosophical Publications workshop. These are now online in MP3 format
(encoded at 32 kbps). They can be listened to online (if one's internet
connection is good enough, or downloaded for offline listening). Note that
the online version is setup for listening by RealOne player. (A free copy
can be downloaded from http://www.realone.com <http://www.realone.com/> .

The audio is at theosophy.com. An official link will be added when the pages
are fully checked out and ready for general viewing. Anyone interesting in
previewing the pages (and audio) should visit
