To Pedro: Shearman's opinion about Leadbeater's birthdate

by Daniel H. Caldwell

Pedro, I wrote to you:

================================================

What year was C.W. Leadbeater born?

Was he born 1847 or 1854??

================================================

You replied:

==================================================

I really don't know, Daniel, as I have no
means to ascertain it. Dr Tillet's comments are
quite extensive, of course. Personally, on
this matter I tend to agree with the opinion
of the late Dr Hugh Shearman. I know a number
of cases of people in Brazil, for example,
who had their births registered much after
the actual date of birth. Apparently, this
happens in other countries in the world as well.

====================================================

Pedro, I call attention to one of your sentences:

==================================================

Personally, on this matter I tend TO AGREE with
the opinion of the late Dr Hugh Shearman.

=====================================================

What EXACTLY was the opinion of Dr. Shearman ON THIS
MATTER?

ON THIS MATTER? I assume Pedro that you are referring to
the issue of the birthdate: 1847 versus 1854.

So what was Hugh Shearman's opinion?

I give two statements below by Gregory Tillett:

===================================================

On what basis did the Liberal Catholic Church accept the corrected
Leadbeater birth date (as, e.g., in the Shearman book and the Shearman
biographical preface to "A Christian Gnosis") and then revert to the
old birthdate (as, e.g. in the General Episcopal Synod resolution
that, since Leadbdater could not lie, he must have been born in 1847)?

The Church had, apparently, originally
accepted the corrected birth date, publishing a booklet by Hugh
Shearman which stated (and attempted to explain) it, and
revising material published by the Liberal Catholic Institute of
Studies to include (but not note or explain) the changed date.

====================================================================

It would appear from Tillet's statements that Dr. Shearman
accepted the 1854 birthdate for Leadbeater in two of his publications.

Therefore, Pedro, do you "tend to agree with the opinion
of the late Dr Hugh Shearman" that Leadbeater was born in 1854?

Or do you dispute what Tillett has written about Dr. Shearman's
opinion about the 1854 birthdate?
