Hi Leonardo
My view is that one shoulnīt use HPB as an example to follow other than her persistence and sence of investigation.
She was a remarkably different being, a mixture between a master and a truehuman being, with a shocking personality who didnīt want any credit for her deeds and powers but who considered her duties her life, it is the mostimportant.
Common people will never be able to know whom she essencially and really was, what she really did in the meanwhile betewen her books and writings, her occult and non-physical activities will always be a mistery for the prophane world.
We just can see who she really was just by observing her comments, commentswho briefly met and lived beside her in her nomad life, and by her altruisitic personality.
We can know a bit more reading the leaves of Col. Olcott, who to me is the closest fellow she had got.

By the way, as an afterthought to the above, I wouldn't be surprised if HPB
smoked her cigarettes whenever she had to receive and perform a Mahatma Letter
precipitation. Where else could the fine carbon particles in the surrounding
atmosphere -- that made up the pencil-like words on paper -- come from? Also,
rolling a cigarette, especially the trick of using one hand, is a good
attention diverter for doing a bit of sleight of hand magic with the other hand. ;-)
Not to say that HPB would have had to stoop to such mundane levels. But,I
like to think of Madame Blavatsky, in addition to her brilliant mind and great
oratory, writing, artistic and musical skills, as being a real hearty, down to
Earth type of character who liked a good joke and playing harmless trickson
gullible people. Since she easily exposed all the phony phenomena of the
spiritualist tricksters -- as the old saying goes -- it takes a good one to know
one. ;-)
As for her teachings of theosophy, including both the head and heart
doctrines, I don't think they have anything to do with the character or personality
foibles of HPB herself. Self righteousness was certainly no part of her
everyday character, I'm sure. And theosophy stands firm, all by itself... As
brotherhood and altruism can be expressed simply by the activity expressed by the
word "harmlessness" in whatever one does that is necessary to do in any
circumstance.
