Dear Zakk
In regard to the "light"
Perhaps it comes from the spiritual faculty known in THEOSOPHY as
Buddhi. [It is not from or in the "astral light."]
I found a passage in the MAHATMA LETTERS (Barker Edn. Pp. 341-2) which
might help, but, if it is obscure then a study of the 7 principles in
man and their qualities and potentials is essential. [I can send a
study on this if you wish.]
This may be of some help: [ M L Pp. 341 - 343 - Barker-]
"So the great Mr. Crookes has placed one foot across the threshold for
the sake of reading the Society's papers? Well and wisely done, and
really brave of him. Heretofore he was bold enough to take a similar
step and loyal enough to truth to disappoint his colleagues by making
his facts public. When he was seeing his invaluable paper smothered in
the "Sections" and the whole Royal Society trying to cough him down,
metaphorically if not actually, as its sister Society in America did to
that martyr, Hare -- he little thought how perfect a revenge Karma had
in store for him. Let him know that its cornucopia is not yet emptied,
and that Western Science has still three additional states of matter to
discover.
But be should not wait for us to condense ourselves up to the
stethescopic standard as his Katy did; for we men are subject to laws of
molecular affinity and polaric attraction which that sweet simulacrum
was not hampered with. We have no favourites, break no rules. If Mr.
Crookes would penetrate Arcana beyond the corridors the tools of modern
science have already excavated, let him -- Try.
He tried and found the Radiometer; tried again, and found Radiant
matter; may try again and find the "Kama-rupa" of matter -- its fifth
state. But to find it's Manas he would have to pledge himself stronger
to secrecy than he seems inclined to.
You know our motto, [THERE IS NO RELIGION HIGHER THAN TRUTH] and that
its practical application has erased the word "impossible" from the
occultist's vocabulary.
If he wearies not of trying, he may discover that that most noble of all
facts, his true SELF. But he will have to penetrate many strata before
he comes to It. And to begin with let him rid himself of the maya that
any man living can set up "claims" upon Adepts. He may create
irresistible attractions and compel their attention, but they will be
spiritual, not mental or intellectual.
And this bit of advice applies and is directed to several British
theosophists, and it may be well for them to know it. Once separated
from the common influences of Society, nothing draws us to any outsider
save his evolving spirituality. He may be a Bacon or an Aristotle in
knowledge, and still not even make his current felt a feather's weight
by us, if his power is confined to the Manas.
The supreme energy resides in the Buddhi; latent -- when wedded to Atman
alone, active and irresistible when galvanized by the essence of "Manas"
and when none of the dross of the latter commingles with that pure
essence to weigh it down by its finite nature. Manas, pure and simple,
is of a lower degree, and of the earth earthly: and so your greatest men
count but as nonentities in the arena where greatness is
342
measured by the standard of spiritual development. When the ancient
founders of your philosophical schools came East, to acquire the lore of
our predecessors, they filed no claims, except the single one of a
sincere and unselfish hunger for the truth. If any now aspire to found
new schools of science and philosophy the same plan will win -- if the
seekers have in them the elements of success.

The following might also prove of some use:
Re: KUNDALINI
The popular concepts of what Kundalini is will largely be found
to be upset by the definitions that Theosophy gives. Here are some of
these to consider and inquired into.
Kundalini is a strange (to us on the material plane of experience)
universal and important spiritual (not "psychic") power. It can be
used wisely for the benefit of all by those who are altruistic, or, if
abused, it will lead to the subjugation and torture of millions by
those who might employ it selfishly. Hence little is said of it.
Imagine the promulgation of false teachings which in the course of
time will affect many millions -- Who desires to bear the Karma of
that? But does the aspirant think of Karma? His own and that of
others? Do they think they can evade and escape from the Karma of any
level of good or evil?
It is for this reason that those who transmit wisdom ought to
preserve, and not to interpret or alter recordings of such wisdom as
may be recorded, in their effort to make it available to those who
follow them in time. The Karma of human development along the right
lines is taken voluntarily by such strong and benevolent ones as are
H P B and the "Masters of Wisdom." Who are we to elevate ourselves (by
egotism) and pretend to have the power to know better, and to change
and alter Their teachings?
One might say that those who pretend to teach it (Kundalini and
occultism), do not know it, for if they did, they would not advertise
for paying pupils, or offer to teach it -- unless their knowledge is
of the "left-hand Path." They would "advance" and go elsewhere. If
"taught," it is an imposition on human credulity, and the selfish
anxiety of the so-called disciple to acquire special powers for his
own private use and advantage. And it can be easily seen that this
pretense provides the "teacher" with some temporary material advantage,
but in the long run it may work to disadvantage not only personally but
of others who know no better.
Spiritual wisdom cannot be bought or sold. If it exists, and if it does,
it is developed by the altruistic and generous qualities -- the
impartiality, discrimination and the impersonality, and above all, the
desire to help and serve others -- of the developing disciple.
And, without any knowledge, reading, or training, how can a disciple
determine the value and knowledge of one who offers himself as a
teacher? It is said that true occultists do not seek for pupils, but
they are prepared to assist others when asked and when Karma permits.
[see MAHATMA LETTERS p. 337 (Barker Edn.) for instance].
It is only those who aspire to do universal good that look for the
means to acquire spiritual knowledge, and realize they can only
acquire it if they purify themselves of all selfishness or
self-interest. Having acquired it, they lay it on the altar of
self-sacrifice. The danger of selfishness is great, and if the least
remnant of this is detected spiritual wisdom will not and cannot be
imparted.
Let us consider some of the hints dropped in The SECRET DOCTRINE .
Kundalini is regarded as: "...the Universal Life Principle
manifesting everywhere in nature...[it] includes the two great forces
of attraction and repulsion. Electricity and magnetism are but
manifestations of it. This is the power which brings about that
"continuous adjustment of internal relations to external relations"
which is the essence of life...[and which] is the basis of
transmigration of souls, punar janman (re-birth) in the doctrines of
Hindu philosophers. A Yogi must thoroughly subjugate this power before
he can attain Moksham... [ implies a freedom from passions DTB ]
S D I 293
Electricity and magnetism -- active and passive Fohat -- this is
forever moved by altruism and the desire to serve others and sustain
universal Life by melding individuality with the Universal purpose:
of total Perfection for all beings. One must remember that in the
manifested Universe this represents total cooperation, and total
sharing of individual abilities with all the rest. These beings are
the immortal Monads. [Atma-Buddhi-Manas]. They are permanent, and
every incarnation marks an advance in their learning process through
experience and the free use of ethical / moral self-choice. It is
brotherhood in voluntary application.
So far as the "material form" is concerned, those countless Monads are
drawn during the life of man to every such Man/Mind center by
cooperative Karma.
"The Monad had but to step into the astral body of the progenitors, in
order that the work of physical consolidation should begin around the
shadowy prototype. (Fn.) ...every Occultist and theosophist will
easily recognize the process. There can be no objective form on Earth
(nor in the Universe either), without its astral prototype being first
formed in Space...a sculptor has had to created first of all a model
in his mind, then sketch it in on and two dimensional lines, and then
only can he reproduce it in a three dimensional or objective figure.
And if the human mind is a living demonstration of such successive
stages in the process of evolution--how can it be otherwise when
NATURE'S MIND and creative powers are concerned?" S D II 660 &
fn.
"...Kriyasakti, that mysterious and divine power latent in the will of
man, and which, if not called to life, quickened and developed by Yogi
training, remains dormant in 999,999 men out of a million, and gets
atrophied....the mysterious power of thought which enables it to
produce external, perceptible, phenomenal results by its own inherent
energy. The ancients held that any idea will manifest itself
externally, if one's attention (and WILL) is deeply concentrated upon
it; similarly, an intense volition will be followed by the desired
result....creation is but the result of will acting on phenomenal
matter, the calling forth out of it the primordial divine Light and
eternal Life.
S D II 163
Those interested in discovering what "Yogi training" is, ought to
study Patanjali's Yoga sutras, the BHAGAVAD GITA , the VOICE OF THE
SILENCE, and H P B's articles on "Occultism."
"...Great intellect and too much knowledge are a two-edged weapon in
life, and instruments for evil as well as for good. When combined
with Selfishness, they will make of the whole of Humanity a footstool
for the elevation of him who possesses them, and a means for the
attainment of his objects; while, applied to altruistic humanitarian
purposes, they may become the means of the salvation of many."
S D II 163
"This fire is the higher Self, the Spiritual ego, or that which is
eternally reincarnating under the influence of its lower personal
Selves, changing with every re-birth, full of Tanha or desire to live.
It is a strange law of Nature that, on this plane, the higher
(Spiritual) Nature should be...in bondage to the lower. Unless the
Ego takes refuge in the Atman, the ALL-SPIRIT, and merges entirely
into the essence thereof, the personal Ego may goad it to the bitter
end....That which propels towards, and forces evolution, i.e., compels
the growth and development of Man towards perfection, is (a) the
MONAD, or that which acts in it unconsciously through a force inherent
in itself and (b) the lower astral body, or the personal Self.
Owing to its identity with the ALL-FORCE...inherent in the Monad, it
is all-potent on the Arupa, or formless plane. On our plane, its
essence being too pure, it remains all potential, but individually
becomes inactive...
So with the Atman; unless the higher Self or EGO gravitates towards
its Sun--the Monad--the lower Ego, or personal Self, will have the
upper hand in every case. For it is this Ego, with its fierce
Selfishness and animal desire to live a Senseless life (Tanha) which
is the "maker of the tabernacle" [personality] ...the Atman alone
warms the inner man, i.e., enlightens it with the ray of divine life
and alone is able to impart to the inner man, or the reincarnating
Ego, its immortality. Thus we shall find, for the first three and a
half Root-Races, up to the middle or the turning point...
Then, from the turning point, it is the Higher Ego, or incarnating
principles, the nous, or Mind, which reigns over the animal Ego and
rules it whenever it is not carried down by the latter. In short,
Spirituality is on its ascending arc, and the animal or physical
impedes it from steadily progressing on the path of its evolution only
when the selfishness of the personality has so strongly infected the
real inner man with its lethal virus, that the upward attraction has
lost all its power on the thinking reasonable man.
in sober truth, vice and wickedness are an abnormal, unnatural
manifestation, at this period of our human evolution--at least they
ought to be so. The fact that mankind was never more selfish and
vicious than it is now, civilized nations having succeeded in making
of the first an ethical characteristic, of the second an art, is an
additional proof of the exceptional nature of the phenomenon.
S D II 109
How did it happen that this state of affairs developed. The SECRET
DOCTRINE narrates as history and it can be gleaned by reading
S D II pp. 282-5, 167, 254-5, among other references.
To sum up: Kundalini is a spiritual force of creation. Each human
Monad/Mind has the use of this power if he wills to become a
cooperator with Nature and the Universe in their procedures of
developing the perfection of being in every Monad and being in this
universe. For this he has to spiritualize himself or herself
entirely. The selfish are forever debarred from using and misapplying
this terrible destructive, or creative force, compared in mythology
with the fiery power of the "Third Eye."
[See MAHATMA LETTERS p. 341-2 (Barker Edn.] .
Best wishes,
Dallas

Steven,
The clear light I was referring to is not an easy matter to define. The
clear light exists where "astral light" can not. Although the clear
light exists also where the astral light can. The clear light I refer to
is not an intent or result of sympathy or antipathy. I will attempt at
an explanation of the clear light. It will be in descriptive format.
Terminology is not quite adequate due to it's existence not being very
well known.
All light is within clear light. If one were to think of a ray of light
going through a prism, the result is many lights being
birthed from the one ray. Within the one ray exist all the lights that
were birthed from it. I will refer to the one ray as white light.
Besides white light, there is black light. Black light does not mean
lack of light, creating a darkness. Clear light precedes both
white and black light as the white light precedes the multiple lights
caused by the prism.
I will give an example of a difference of the astral and clear light.
When one leaves the physical form, as in astral travel, the earth is not
a restricted area of travel. One may leave the earth and visit the moon,
for example. But there are certain restrictions on the
astral travel as it pertains to universal travel. There is that which is
called a "black hole". The black hole has an effect on the astral body.
If one were to place a clear light "bubble" around oneself, the effect
of the black hole on the astral body is negated.
Note: Although the travel mode of being out of the physical body is
generally bv the astral body , there are other methods.
There is the "inner self". The inner self is not made of the astral
light. It does not have the restrictions as the astral body does.
This mode of out of physical body travel is an optimal one in comparison
to the astral body. When one attains this, the astral
travel is not often used.
I am not familiar with Adept or Raj Yog, so I can not say for certain
if this is the clear light that is referred to. By the short
description that you have presented, I would speculate that it is the
same clear light.
I have been away for a number days, causing a delay in the response.

Zak-In your piece you say :"The use of forces is a method of levitation.
There are other methods as well. One other method is the use of what is
referred to as "clear light". When the clear light is placed around an
object, can be referred to as a "field" around it. The enviroment within
this field is not controlled/dominated by the enviroment outside of it.
This negates the attraction effect"
I think the "field" might be desrcibed as the intent or result of
our "Sympathy or Antipathy" regarding our surroundings. For most of us,
these two terms are merely psychological states, but in the Adept or Raj
Yog, they are the manifest power of the truely focussed manas (allows
for the "Clear Light" of Buddhi/Manas to manifest), which is undettered
by illusion . What do you think?

Subject: [bn-study] Levitation - Telepathy
Presented are some added comments and thoughts :
Telepathy: The brain is tool. It is a physical tool. Physical tools have
their limitations, as they are physical. The
brain can be a tool utilized in the area of telepathy.
It also limits, sets a certain restriction, on
telepathic communication. The brain is best utilized
after the communication occurs, versus using
it as a tool of the communication itself. The mind can
operate independent of the brain. The mind
exists after the brain ceases to function, as well as
before the brain was created. An example can
be given, of the mind operating independently of the
brain, while one is still "physically alive".
The example would be known to many as an "out-of-body"
experience. Those who can do this
at will, will be able to associate or understand what is
being presented. During the out of body
experience, communication is not terminated. The brain
is not being used for communication
either. Communication is done on a telepathic basis.
This is done with the mind, independent
of the brain. This level of communication can be done
while still in the physical body. The
level of understanding, that one receives through the
telepathic means, is greater than when
the brain is used as a tool of reception. To focus
through the mind, rather than the brain, would
be seen as an optimal choice for clearer communication.
Levitation: The use of forces is a method of levitation. There are
other methods as well. One other method
is the use of what is referred to as "clear light".
When the clear light is placed around an object,
it can be referred to as a "field" around it. The
enviroment within this field is not controlled/dominated
by the enviroment outside of it. This negates the
attraction effect.
Invisibility: One method of becoming invisible, is to let the physical
light pass through the body. When this is
done, there is no physical light reflecting off the body
in order for it to be seen. This method of
invisibilty is successful only in regards to the
physical eyes. Another method is light dispersement.
The physical light is directed to flow around the body,
versus passing through it.
Object manifestation: All thoughts have a shape or form. The thought of
"apple" has a different shape or form
than "orange". Thoughts have an existence. They have an
"energy arrangement". When a thought
is created, it is given a form consisting of certain
energy type and arrangement. The energy type
gives it it's attributes/properties. The energy
arrangement gives it it's form. From the stage of
being a thought, to the stage of being a manifestation, a
process of "solidifying" takes place.
The thought is the basic outline of what will manifest.
The solidifying process is when the outline
is given the energy to become "dense" enough to appear in
the physical realm. The energy given
to the thought, has to follow the outline in which the
thought is.
There are many methodologies for many things. It shows the many
possibilities and avenues. It is a reflection
of the limitless and it's grandeur.
The material presented is methodologies and not specific instruction as
to their accomplishment. That comes
with the depth of understanding of the individual. The comments and
thoughts shared is to express a part of
the wonder and splendor of the universe and it's infinitude.
