A senior Buddhist monk in Badulla, Sri Lanka, was once
asked the question: "What is the meaning of the word
'vipassana'?
"To look at oneself intelligently" he replied.
He then explained:
"When one does not look intelligently, there is a self
and therefore suffering. When one looks at oneself
intelligently there is no self and therefore no
suffering."
