The esoteric teaching was Kabbalism as taught in the first century.
It was therefore esoteic Judaism, but first century vintage esoteric
Judaism, which was not exxactly the same as the modern or medieval
flavors. Commentators such as Origen insisted esoteric Christianity
was superioor to exoteric Judaism, which is true, but what they seem
not to have understood or acknowleged was that esoteric Christianity
was deeply indebted to esoteric Judaism. With the assistance of the
latter the former can be reconstructed from existing documents.
