Dear Henry:
This adds to the study Mauri instigated about what HPB teaches in S D
Vol. I (see pp. 14-19) the THREE FUNDAMENTALS.
Many thanks for the suggestions.
Like you my life has been ""guided" but not because I am unconscious or
suggestible, but rather ideas that lead to logical thought have occurred
and also, the provision of times and places for study and thought have
been seized and used over many years. If I had an advantage, it is that
I contacted THEOSOPHY since birth - having been born into a family
where both my parents had already discovered the writings of HPB and
were deeply studious of them.
I find that THEOSOPHY shows:
The symbol for the ABSOLUTE is the ZERO 0 since it has no
qualities from our point of view.
The "idea" (under the Karma of an earlier universe) of "manifestation"
produces a power symbolized by ONE 1 or the "Word, or Verbum." The
phrase the "first Logos" is used concerning this awakening IDEA -- LET
THERE BE LIFE. -- LET THERE BE A RE-MANIFESTATION. [Of course this
"new" comes under KARMA-LAW from an older one -- there is a "nidana," a
concatenation, a link chain of events, that repercus and reverberate
down the roll of incessant activity we call cycles. And cycles involve
TIME regardless of how it is measured. ]
When manifestation re-begins then the "sundering of the ONE" occurs and
THEOSOPHY says that it re-divides into the contrasting pair: SPIRIT and
MATTER.
I insert some questions and comments in your text below as we may have
some little differences of meaning attached to our words. Hope you
don't mind.
Best wishes,
Dallas.
PS Look at this:
"As regards the evolution of mankind, the Secret Doctrine postulates
three new propositions, which stand in direct antagonism to modern
science as well as to current religious dogmas: it teaches
(a) the simultaneous evolution of seven human groups on seven different
portions of our globe;
(b) the birth of the astral, before the physical body: the former being
a model for the latter; and
(c) that man, in this Round, preceded every mammalian---the anthropoids
included---in the animal kingdom
The second Adam [in Genesis] is esoterically a septenary which
represents seven men, or rather groups of men. For the first Adam---the
Kadmon---is the synthesis of the ten Sephiroth. Of these, the upper
triad remains in the Archetypal World as the future "Trinity," while the
seven lower Sephiroth create the manifested material world.
S D II p. 1
This book ought to be read by all serious thinkers.

Dallas,
Hope my views may be of some assistance on some of the questions you
pose.
First off I must explain that I am only recent to theosophy and by
no means have read all that has been written on the subject. A thinker
I have been for as long as I can remember and theosophy seems to be
the house I now reside in. To cut a long story short, I tread the
same path as all and through guidance from somewhere (know not where)
have been lead here.
DTB Same here.
H
Duality
The absolute is 1 as are we, as we are the absolute. There is no
division except in maya(illusion) Maya was created to allow us(The
absolute)to experience "life". Duality is also maya as it is only the
polar opposite of the one.
DTB "Matter" is the opposite of "Spirit" I think ?
Maya is an illusion to the Lower mind, but not to the HIGHER MIND allied
to universal wisdom.
H
We as individual characters have free will giving us choice.
DTB To me "character" is the general mix of good and bad
characteristics that each INDIVIDUAL has and is.
The superior ones are impartial, fair, just, compassionate, loving,
honest, -- all the "virtues."
The inferior ones are characterized by selfishness, greed, and all the
"vices" which oppose the virtues.
H
Choice in all things, the freedom to choose our own
destiny whether that to love or to hate, selfish or selfless or
material or spiritual.
DTB I think it is important to determine where this independence
comes from. THEOSOPHY says it is innate and part of the ONE as well as
"our" "SPIRIT.
H
The road we choose is up to us and me thinks
the balance be swayed too far in the wrong direction.
We require, more now than ever before a huge injection of love,
selflessness and spirituality and I hope that will come from
theosophy.
DTB That would be an individual choice and effort ? It cannot be
enforced on others. I agree as to your assessment.
H
To me the bottom line in theosophy is the brotherhood of man.
That is not the way things appear to be playing out.
Humanity (to me) is headed in the direction of selfishness, material and
worst of all hate and is spreading like a plague, it requires a hefty
counter
balance. Maybe we could learn something from the sixties when love was
in the air and people cared about each other.
DTB Agreed. But we live and work for the future, as you observe
also.
H
There is no third entity to perceive, the only entity to perceive is
your character (the polar opposite of personality)and that is but a
letter in the eternal book of the absolute.
DTB SPIRIT contrasts with MATTER but they do not converge. They only
parallel each other, though they together form the LIVING PILGRIM MONAD.
The MIND serves as a medium of exchange and sees the principles of both
and their interaction is then perceived by it. Correct?
So if the Mind is granted as a "third party" as an intermediary, our
concern is with the directing of the Mind.
H
In nature 1+1=1 as there is only ever one and all else is maya, and
why? To experience "life", to evolve and go back to the place where
it all started. The absolute that is all.
It is the journey which creates through choice a reason for existence
and not the end result that started it all. We live in our minds. All
else is fantasy, a
creation of the imagination overseen by those that know better, whom
I some day would like to meet but according to the mahatma letters I
have only a 1 in 10,000 chance of achieving and that better than no
chance at all.
DTB A pretty solid "phantasy ?" How come? What value? What need
?
H
Time is immaterial, only exists on this plane of existence.
DTB Has to do with memory of events and choices. It keeps
everything from happening all at once.
H
Patience is a virtue to be rendered harmless.
DTB Agreed but Why ? Who benefits?
H
Hope you make some sense of this dwodle
love ALL-WAYS
henry
