RE: Signed 1888 Vol. I edition of The Secret Doctrine
+ mystery symbol after H P B's initials
Dear Tony
Thanks for your sharp eyes.
I had not noticed the horizontal interruptions or radiations
(?).If this is in two sections perhaps it indicates Lower and
Higher Manas CONJOINED -- made ONE ? Just an idea ?
The copy of the signature I got was not very clear.
4th Line from the bottom and 3rd line from the top -- still mean
MANAS to me.
In several places the use of numbers for "principles" seems to
vary.
As to cross posting. I agree it has draw-backs.
My use of it is diffusion of Theosophical ideas as far as
possible. So as to evoke thought and wide discussion.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Dear David and Dallas
This was a cross-posting by Dallas (of just his mail rather than
ALL the
mails) from theos-talk, and I don't think Jim is on this list.
One
suggestion was, what Dallas and you call the fourth line from the
bottom, is
in fact 2 lines emanating out from the centre. If you have a
closer look at
the symbol, see what you think.
The trouble with cross-posting is that the original inquirer
doesn't get to
see the replies from the other list or lists, and the energy
becomes
scattered and less focussed.
Your comments are interesting.
Tony

Dear Jim,
This is pure speculation on my part but the 6 parallel lines
reminded
me immediately of a Chinese hexagram as found in the I Ching.
Six
unbroken lines is the 1st hexagram, the sign of the "Creative"
The dot
& circle in the fourth line (from the bottom)
may signify a changing line which would turn the 1st hexagram
into the
9th hexagram. I will not attempt to interpret the meaning of
this but
you might refer to an edition of the I ,Ching for further
exploration.
If you are unfamiliar with the book I would recommend the Wilhelm
edition,Bollingen series XIX, Princeton University Press.
