Re "THE RETURN OF THE GIANTS"

Dear Bart:

I think you are right that H P B does not tie human intelligence
to a particular "humanoid" form, as she says in The SECRET
DOCTRINE that in earlier Rounds, the "form" that was destined to
be used by a human intelligence passed through several stages and
configurations, astrally and physically also. So also did
reproduction.

She also indicates that physical, chemical and other conditions
may vary from place to place as the Sun drags its system into new
spaces. [S D I 49, 111fn, 142-3, 185-6, 251-2, 258,329, 491,
519-20, 524-7, 552, 589, 607-8, 669; II 250, 308fn, 593,
732, ] .

We may presume that the properties of physics and chemistry
pertain to our condition now and establishes the limits you speak
of as "norms." But earlier they may have been quite different.
She does speak of that in The SECRET DOCTRINE [S D I 142-4] as
being spherical and reproduction being by a budding process and
an egg-laying process, and finally an enclosed uterine process
such as we have today.

She however says, in several places, that the 3rd Race of this,
the 4th Round, showed correspondences with the forms of the 3rd
Round. She speaks of Ape-like forms used in that far away time
to house the intelligence that was to become human when "lit-up."
And she mentions the early breeding of the "mindless man-forms"
with huge she-monsters -- thus creating the progenitors of the
Apes. Those semi-human Egos trapped in those "ape-bodies, she
says were brought into existence by the Atlanteans "renewing the
sin of the mindless," However, she also says these Egos, so
trapped, are to be released soon, as those physical forms and
races die out. Of such extinctions, of those already gone, she
offers the examples of the Veddhas of Ceylon and the Tasmanian
aborigines. In the newspaper about a week ago, we read that the
existence of the Orang-outangs in Indonesia, Borneo and New
Guinea was threatened. Extinction looms for them. So too of
recent years we note the jungle and mountain habitat of the free
Chimpanzees and the Gorillas is being transformed and reduced by
forestry. They are also threatened as groups. Some fear they
also will be extinguished.

As you say, the true human is the Ego, or a Mental being, a unit
of consciousness (Monad) that works in and through nature with
the" monads of lesser experience" and the substances on several
planes called by some: "Little Lives," "skandhas," or,
"Monads." The form used is the one best suited for Karma and
free-will to act in and through. This is done under the reign of
Universal Law.

The incarnation of INTELLIGENCE in MATTER seems from, all
appearances, to be for the benefit of the "matter" used. It gives
it a chance to refine and elevate itself as in time all will come
to the man-stage and self-consciousness will be "lit-up." (S D
I 150 fn)

As I gather, one of the necessities of evolution as a whole, is
for there to be a connecting principle between the SPIRIT and the
MATTER form -- hence MIND is essential. [S D I 181-3]
And, the human kingdom represents that link.

If in the past or future that physical condensation weakens and
enlarges, the physical form, may return to a more "astral
condition." Density and physical conditions of "matter" may then
change substantially. But actual details or visual proofs are
lacking, as you observe.

Therefore, these finds would seem to verify Blavatsky's words,
or,
more precisely, a bunch of people's INTERPRETATIONS of
Blavatsky's words
(nowhere, for example, did she ever state that the 4th Root Race
had a
humanoid physical body, nor is there any good reason to assume
that it
did).

This flies in the face of known physics, where if a human
body gets to
8 feet or so, the structure cannot hold itself. And this is not
conjecture; this has been very well proven by all sorts of
experimentation, not to mention actual cases of humans who grow
beyond a
certain height. For example, Andre Roussimoff, aka Andre the
Giant, was
"only" 7' 4", and quite physically able, but died at an early age
because his circulatory system couldn't handle his size.

Let's compare a 6' tall man, about 180 pounds, with a 42'
tall man (7x
the size). Given the same physical structure, he would weigh
about 300
tons. However, a humanoid bone structure that size would only
support
about 40 tons, and then only if it were made out of sturdier
materials.
It would be as if that 6 foot tall man suddenly found himself
carrying
1400 pounds.

There ARE ways a creature that large can exist. Shorter
and thicker
legs, a smaller head, a shorter and thicker neck (note that a
giraffe
has a "normal" sized body, just longer bones in the neck and
forelegs),
a different posture, or living in water for support (note that a
hippopotamus has all of the above).

However, while Blavatsky contends that the reincarnating
part of the
body cannot move to a lower species, there is no reason why it
can't
move to a higher, but different one.

And there is nothing in the primary literature of Theosophy
that states that you must be the reincarnation
of one of your ancestors. Certainly, the first root race could
not
possibly have been humanoid in form, as they were supposedly
barely
physical at all. Therefore, it is logical to consider that our
reincarnating principles (let's call them "souls" for short) were
not
necessarily contained in the bodies of the physical ancestors of
our
current bodies. Blavatsky's use of the term "human" to refer
interchangeably to the ephemeral body, soul, and both, so it is
entirely
a matter of interpretation.

I just go by the rule that if one interpretation is
supported by the
evidence, while another goes contradicts the evidence, use the
one that
is supported until evidence comes along that contradicts it (an
application of Occam's razor, "Do not unnecessarily multiply
entities").
