I seem to recall reading that Gautama Buddha was 
open minded about his Buddhist teaching---at times, 
apparently, somewhat too open in that, as per G. de 
Purucker, he made subsequent adjustments to that 
openess, by way of Sankaracharya, or something like 
that, apparently: see THE DIALOGUES OF G DE P, 
VOL 2. Or see online link to that below.

Apparently there have been, and are, "esoteric" (or at 
least "less than obvious"?) forms of Buddhism here and 
there, now and then ... Gerald Schueler seems to be 
fairly knowledgable (apparently?) about various forms 
of Buddhism, as per, eg, his site:

As far as I know, he's presently subscribing only to the
