RE: "Religion" What is it exactly ?

Dear Friends and Etzion:

I just sent out yesterday a general note on RELIGION -- the
significance lf the word is

" that which draws all of us together.

Religion is derived from the Latin "religiere" -- to "bind
together."

There are many kinds of bonds, Some are emotional and some are
the result of thought, study and science. And the best are those
established by WISDOM. Thus, the best are those resulting from a
knowledge of all things. Such knowledge is in our reach if we
only remember that we are
IMMORTALS in Mind and Spirit, and REINCARNATION is the exercise
that carries forward our education under uniform and universal
LAW, and eventually makes it universal.

The word MAGIC is derived from "Magi -- a group of wise men [the
"Nobles" or "Aryans" of ancient Persia] among which were the 33
Zoroasters ( it was a title, not a name) of ancient Persia, or
MEDE as it was once called. The word "Magician" denotes a wise
practitioner of such knowledge of relationships, cycles,
mathematics, atomic relations, evolution of body, psyche and
Mind -- and the actual changes that occur in nature, both refined
and gross.

[As an example: We set fire to a piece of wood or coal. It is
chemically CARBON. The atmosphere that helps it to take fire and
transform itself through burning is OXYGEN -- a gas in the air.
Chemically expressed:

CARBON + OXYGEN = (heat) + CARBON DIOXIDE (a gas).

Millions of people use fire and know nothing of the SCIENTIFIC
EVENT that takes place.

Another instance:

We DESIRE something. The DESIRE causes our MIND to begin
thinking and planning the possible results of ACTIONS which we
might take to achieve the DESIRE. Among those results other
factors become necessary to consider: ETHICS and ECOLOGY. That
is, the power of the environment to react to the effects our
action may introduce. Also we have to remember to consider the
rights and privileges of surrounding living entities, men,
animals, plants, etc...

LAW as a uniform factor -- that harmonizes all existence -- has
to be considered, is we wish to be wise.

We sense that we, as the originators of actions, will also be
responsible for their effects. Deep inside, our "intuition"
warns the Mind, and, we sense that NATURE (environment), being
multi-dimensional will react to our choices and motives, and
reflect on us the RESULTS of those options we implement. WISDOM
steps in there as our most valuable assistant, and because all
conscious change we might make will affect others for their
better or detriment. This type of consideration has been
relegated to RELIGION to explain. This blends SCIENCE with
RELIGION.

The Mind of man has thus three divisions: Science (of the laws
of substances and materials), Philosophy (the power to reason
logically, and remember, and anticipate) and, Religion (the laws
do coexistence, cooperation and brotherhood.) But the Mind is
itself a tool of the real Higher Self -- the ATMA-BUDDHI (or a
Ray of the UNIVERSAL ABSOLUTENESS representing Immortality and a
Wisdom concerning harmonious living).]

These two illustrations are important. The second has been
placed in the domain of "religion." But the many organized
religions we know of, are usually not clear on the operation of
"MORAL LAW." Nor do they positively teach that each one of us
will be finally RESPONSIBLE for all choices we make, and the way
those changes affect others. It takes a sensitive MIND to
perceive the importance of this universal fact. But this is the
actual basis for LIFE.

It is compassion, sharing, based on the sameness of essential
substance of Nature we share with all living things. Consider it
at the atomic level for a moment -- we witness a continual
exchange. Under what laws does this proceed? Is this not the
realm of "psychic" nature, where attraction and repulsion as
FORCES act on the environment and on other entities with equal
capacities and rights there ? We see that I Nature this occurs
automatically. When human intelligence and motives for choice
are used the rules take those into account, and hold the Master
CHOOSER TO ACCOUNT.

The WISDOM ( a knowledge of the Laws of Nature, visible and
invisible) actually combines a knowledge of all the LAWS of
Nature concerning the inter-action of things (visible and
invisible).

You will see that this constitutes SCIENCE -- the power to
perceive to "see" and therefore to know the secret, smallest,
least "visible" of interactions and cooperative movements of all
physical objects.

This is actually the power to watch LAW in motion at any point
and to be able to derive some idea of the rules of those
interactions. This is a closer glimpse into the action of KARMA
than we realize.

One of our main obstructions (illusions, maya) is the fact that
our senses are limited to gross levels. A knowledge of
electricity and magnetism opens the realms of the "very small"
and the "invisible" to us -- so with those refined and subtle
tools we can "see" changes all around us, that to the ordinary
man are "magic."

This covers a very wide scope but the actual nature of such
knowledge is mainly at the atomic, sub-atomic and molecular level
of forces and powers. If you consider Chemistry and Physics,
also Mathematics and Astronomy -- the universal tools of
Science, you will see that in fact a knowledge of universal
factors is essential. And that takes many lives to fully
acquire. We are half-way there. Moral Law is the equivalent of
Physical Law in the area of wise and generous living among beings
that will live forever together as real brothers.

In the BHAGAVAD GITA one finds 18 chapters. The first 6 relate
to "right action" (Karma). The next 6 relate to "Devotion"
(Bhakti). The final 6 deal with the use of "wisdom." (Gnyan, or
Dhyana).

Krishna as the Universal Being, Wisdom incarnate, discourses on
these with the Mind-man (Arjuna) who aspires to become wise. He
declares that the entire manifested Universe has three qualities:
PURITY -- ACTION -- INERTIA. These may be fund related to
"wisdom," to "thought and emotional actions," and, to "rest or
repose, and doing nothing." The Wise, Immortal Man, harmonizes
all these. This leads him to Spiritual Wisdom, and to becoming
an active and harmless assistant in universal life. That is Love
and non-violence.

The opposite "Path" is selfishness, isolation -- inertia.

Hope this may be of help,

Best wishes,

Dallas

P S Consider:

"Your best method is to concentrate on the Master as a
Living Man inside you. Make his image in your heart
and a focus of concentration so as to lose all sense
of bodily existence in the one thought. . . ." KH

See also LETTERS THAT HAVE HELPED ME ( Judge) p. 164,

"Masters...They are Atman and therefore the very law of Karma
itself. They are in everything in life, and in every phase of our
changing days and years." Let. p. 68

"To mediate on the Higher Self is difficult. Seek then the
bridge -- the Masters." Let. p.112

"It is not high learning that is needed, but solely devotion to
humanity, faith in Masters, in the Higher Self." Let. p. 97

"The best and most important teacher is one's seventh principle
(ATMA) centered in the sixth (BUDDHI)." Let. p. 96

-------------------

I would say that the Higher Self ( ATMA-BUDDHI ) and the true
"Master" are identical. They are universal. Brotherhood springs
from this concept as a reality, as a fact.

Subject: "Concentrate on the Master as a Living Man inside you."

This is exactly what my Master said. Loving and concentrating on
a real
Master cuts our way short for the realization of our Higher Self,
which the
Master reflects before us. Unfortunately, most of the *masters*
are false.

But only a real Master can give the spark of Divine Love. Those
who are
approaching, the Master, the embodiment of Truth, with the
sincere wish to
serve, won't fail, but those who run after masters for selfish
reasons, will
fail. Etzion
