Re: Wisdom vs. sorcery

Dear Friends:

An excellent question: Who would make a religion out of Wisdom?

Only those who selfishly seek to terrorize their fellows and enslave
them. War, terrorism, the imposition of any unfair rule is a
manifestation of this.

If everyone minded their own business then, this would not arise at
all.

One can understand why silence and secrecy was the discipline followed
by Those (Adepts and their disciples) who had wisdom - as the
unscrupulous and the amoral could misuse useful and helpful
discoveries, twisting them to goals of self control and personal
ambition. [The story of Nobel is a good example of this, as his
explosives, developed for mining, were seized on by arms makers, and
they translated them into ever more deadly articles of war and
oppression.]

Those who are vicious in intent use the virtues as their shield and
create an illusion of right motive.

It has been so down the annals of history. How many political parties
are truly disinterested and pure of self-interest? How many rulers are
content with their performance of the duties Karma has assigned to
them? Finally, if the whole of humanity has access to the same code
of ethics, (Brotherhood), is government essential? Many communities
seem to have envisaged a kind of generous anarchy as a base for
cooperation and common existence. One needs to think about this.

The history of the development of sorcery is given in The SECRET
DOCTRINE .

It began in the 4th Race, when the faculty of the Lower Manas --
intellectuality -- developed in the natural course of evolution. The
are also known to us as the Atlanteans who became enraptured with
their physical nature -- to the extent that they forgot the spiritual,
causal side of Karma -- In this study CURIOSITY is mentioned ( S D I
165) ; then, CONCEIT (S D I 133) ; The error was to divert attention
to the purely physical ( S D I 164, 192fn; II 279, 315, 331) and
it became a study in effects regardless of the adverse causes set up
(S D I 262, 464-5, 515; II 663-4)

The Epic RAMAYANA depicts the struggles of Wisdom ( S D I 272-3, II
700) against sorcery (S D II 495).

Best wishes,

Dallas
